Concept Catcher

These handmade wooden blocks follow the color system of Maria Montessori's grammar symbols:
Light Blue - Articles
Dark Blue - Adjectives
Black - Nouns
Purple - Pronouns
Red - Verbs
Orange - Adverbs
Green - Prepositions
Pink - Conjunctions
Gold - Interjections

Each block has 6 different words of the same part of speech. Children can roll or choose words to build hundreds of sentences. Some will be accurate (true) and some humorous! That's another fun aspect to the game! Roll the dice to see what you get or choose the words to build a 'nonfiction' sentence.

Once the blocks are rolled, the child then has to put them in logical order, or what is referred to as syntactical order. They must decide the order in which the words make sense (reading comprehension - factual or fantasy). Even if they roll the 'fictional' sentence: A pink horse meows quietly, the syntactical (word) order makes sense.

Students can:
1.	read the sentences they create.
2.	write them to incorporate correct punctuation, capitalization, and punctuation.
3.	act them out!
4.	read the sentence aloud to a partner. Ask them to act it out. (listening comprehension)
5.	write the Montessori grammar symbol above each part of speech when you write the sentence.
6.	place the grammar symbols above the blocks on your table / work mat.
7.	build a sentence. Read it. Take one die and roll it. Read the new sentence. What changed?
8.	make up your own extension!

These games come to you folded and ready to learn from on 60# weight paper for repeated use. Questions and Answers are printed on the Concept Catcher for independent (without a teacher/adult) use, if so desired.This is primarily a two person game in which one person holds the Concept Catcher in both hands by using the thumbs and first two fingers in the bottom four openings.

How the game is played:
1.	The first player (the holder) holds the Catcher, the second (the chooser) chooses a number 1-4.
2.	The holder opens the Catcher back and forth that many times to show the inside 4 numbers out of total 8.
3.	The chooser picks a number from the 4 choices.
4.	The holder moves the catcher side to side and back and forth that number of times to show the second set of 4 numbers.
5.	The chooses picks the last number.
6.	The holder opens the Catcher to ask the chooser a question. For example: 4 X 5 = ? (The answer is on the Concept Catcher).
7.	The chooses decides on the answer.
8.	The holder tells the chooser if it is correct or tells him the correct answer.
9.	Play continues 2 more times and then the holder and chooser switch roles.
